Munich Airport has got to be one of the best airports in Europe regardless of what class you’re travelling in. It’s modern, easy to navigate and everything is close by. Check-in for Lufthansa business class passengers is up the esclators in Terminal 2. The line was short and I had my boarding pass in no time.

A friend of mine happened to be at the airport at the same time so instead of going straight to the lounge, we went to Airbräu for a bite to eat. This place serves traditional Bavarian fare and the Münchener Weißwurst and a Weißbier went down a treat.

Food of champions

I still had time to hit the lounge for a pre-departure beverage so I scrambled through security and found my way to the Business Lounge. The lounge was certainly a far cry from the first class lounge across the hall, but that’s product differentiation for you. No sooner had I finished my glass of white wine it was time to board the A340-600 taking me to Singapore.

It was time to visit my old home Australia again, but instead of tackling the 27-hour journey in two jetlag-inducing slugs, I decided to break it up a bit. Singapore was not at the top of my “To Do” list. It seemed a little sterile and boring compared to other Asian cities, but it would give me the opportunity to visit a cousin I hadn’t seen for some time and also sample Singapore Airline’s A380 Business Class product to Sydney. Tick!

My uncle was on secondment in Shanghai at the time and offered to host and take me around if I came. Tick! What else is around the area? With Japan being my favourite country and only a short flight from Shanghai, I planned to get out of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and explore the mountains near Nagano, visit the infamous snow monkeys and learn how to make soba noodles…from scratch!

I decided I needed one more city to visit to make the whole trip worthwhile. Hong Kong comes in a close second after Tokyo as my favourite city in Asia. I could visit a high school friend and do some much needed shopping. Tick! And so the three-week long Australasian journey was planned. After cashing in some points and booking a handful of revenue tickets, this is how my trip to/from Australia via half of Asia looked:

So fasten your seatbelts, enjoy your pre-take off Champagne and enjoy the ride!

The 6-month absence has finally been broken! Apologies all round for the severe lack of blogging and unexplained disappearance. A new job and new goals have occupied most of my time this year which has caused travel plans and blogging to take a severe blow. However, autumn is shaping up to become a season of [...]

Installation @ MOMA My New York photo trip report continues… I usually try to avoid Times Square but my friend Mel convinced me to visit M&M World, something I had previously had no interest whatsoever in going to. Boy was I wrong! This was (processed) chocolate heaven! Every kind of M&M in every colour and [...]

I arrived in New York a great big drunken mess. After 12 hours of travelling and countless glasses of Champagne, I stumbled into the car, confirmed the drop-off address with my driver, and dozed off. A short nap later I had arrived on the Upper East Side. I took the opportunity of staying with a [...]

After a fashionable 24 hours in Milan it was time to jet off to my final destination, New York. Because getting there is half the fun, I booked a flight via London with British Airways, which was having a sale on Club World flights. They also have the best business class offering on Transatlantic flights, [...]
